Is Your Heating System Ready for Fall?

With summer in full swing, your heating system is probably the last thing on your mind. But we’ve been in the business long enough to know that the best time to think about your heat is before you need it. To ensure your system is ready for the cold weather months, consider the following five questions:
1. Did your heating system show signs of trouble last season?
If your heating system struggled to keep up last season, it’s time to schedule a check-up. Our licensed technicians can diagnose any lingering issues and ensure your system is in top shape before the cold weather sets in.
2. How old is it?
Most residential heating systems last between 12 and 18 years. If your system is on the older side—and especially if it’s already required repairs—it might be more cost-effective to replace it now than to risk an inconvenient (and chilly) breakdown mid-winter.
How long do heating systems last? It depends on several factors, including the brand, usage level, and whether you’ve kept up with annual maintenance.
3. Did your system make odd noises?
While a dull humming sound is typical, any banging, screeching, whistling, clicking, or hissing may indicate your heating system has worn parts, airflow problems, or other internal issues. If you hear anything out of the ordinary, please contact us so we can address the issue before it becomes a significant (and costly) problem.
4. Is it energy efficient?
Older systems tend to run less efficiently, resulting in increased strain on your equipment and higher energy bills. Upgrading to an ENERGY STAR®-certified heating system can reduce your utility costs and increase comfort throughout your home.
Did You Know? You can earn a federal tax credit of $2,000 per year until 2033 when installing an energy-efficient mini-split heat pump or water heater produced by a qualified manufacturer. Contact our team for information on this and other incentives, including the Mass Save® Rebate.
5. Are you happy with the comfort level in your home?
Does your home have hot and cold spots, or take a long time to warm up? It may be time for a new system. From ductless mini-splits to high-efficiency furnaces and boilers, Mainstream Mechanical offers a wide range of heating solutions to suit your needs and budget.
