How do Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Splits Heat Your Home?

Mitsubishi ductless mini-split systems consist of an indoor unit (mounted on your wall or ceiling) and an outdoor compressor. These units work in harmony to heat your home through a process called reverse cycle heating. Here's how it works:

  • Outdoor Unit (Heat Extraction): When your mini-split system is in heating mode, the external unit acts as an evaporator, extracting heat from the outdoor air—even in exceptionally cold temperatures.

  • Indoor Unit (Evaporation): The extracted heat from the outdoor air is transferred to the indoor unit's coil. The fan inside the indoor unit blows air over this warm coil.

  • Refrigerant Circulation: The refrigerant absorbs the heat and turns it into a gas. This warm air is then distributed throughout your living space, providing efficient heating.

Cooling Your Home With A Mini-Split System

During the warm-weather months, Mitsubishi mini-splits keep your home cool, operating similarly to a traditional air conditioner. Here's how it works:

  • Indoor Unit (Evaporator): The indoor unit of the mini-split system contains a coil filled with cold refrigerant. The fan inside the unit blows warm indoor air over this coil.

  • Refrigerant Circulation: The refrigerant absorbs heat from the indoor air, turning it into a gas. This process cools the indoor air, which is then circulated back into the room, providing cooling.

  • Outdoor Unit (Condenser): The hot refrigerant gas is then pumped to the outdoor unit. Within the condenser unit, the refrigerant releases the absorbed heat into the outside air, and the refrigerant returns to a liquid state, ready to be used again.
